We went to see "Up" with grandma and grandpa Erickson. We enjoyed the beginning with teary eyes and looked forward to the rest of the show. It wasn't until the middle when Mason was ready to go. Mason doesn't like new movies. He has a hard time with any character who is mean or angry. It was our first time taking him to the theater. We tried numerous times to take him in the past, but he didn't want to go. So, after the big bird being big, the old man getting angry with the bird and the boy Mason was done. Randy and I tried to let him know everything was going to be okay until the dogs showed up. Mason was ready to cry and pleading to go home. Maryn also jumped on the home wagon, and Randy and I just looked at each other in disbelief. Thank goodness we were the only ones in the theater so our kids could really express their feelings. I finally put Mason on my lap and talked him through the rest of the show. It's amazing what an explanation will do. Mason was laughing and enjoying himself and Maryn was picking up on the happy vibe too. After the movie, we asked the kids how they liked it, and if they wanted a balloon. They both like the show. Mason, not a fan of balloons said "no" and Maryn said "yes, just one" holding one finger up and looking very serious. We couldn't stop laughing. Thanks for the balloons Grandpa...Just one.
