Pumpkinman Triathlon

Randy is racing in his first sprint triathlon today. With many you tube videos on how to swim, borrowing a bike from Dad E, changing his athletic wardrobe to skin tight clothing, and amping up his running skills- he is ready.

Getting ready for the half mile swim

He had a great start and was looking really strong until he was kicked by another racer. He lost his rhythm, but kept swimming.
He finished in 18min 35sec.

Transition 1 to Bike. It took him 5min 22sec.
It was fun for us to watch him transition.
 
He had his biggest fans cheering him on.

The kiddos loved cheering "go dad go". They also loved all the big rocks they could throw while waiting for dad to finish his swim.
 
Our good friends Dawn and Jady came and cheered him on too.
He was fortunate to get a lot of advise from these triathlon pros.

Transition 2 to Run.
He finished the bike in 1hour 10min and 11 sec. He didn't realized his tire pressure was only 30 pounds per square inch. The tires can hold up to 120 psi. He rocked that bike ride on flat tires!
He is even more motivated to race again to get a better time on the bike. His transition time was 2min 21sec.
The kiddos and I were so excited to meet my sister Sara and her kids at transition 2. They are so great to come and support Randy too.

The Lomax family is very new to racing and with trying to get kiddos ready and making sure Randy had everything, I forgot my camera. We were so happy that Sara brought her camera and got some great pictures. Unfortunately we didn't get him finishing, but he did.
He ran his run in 24min 28 sec.
His overall time was 2hr 1min and 14sec.
He wanted to finish in under 2 hours and was frustrated he didn't.
He placed  131 out of  335 racers.
He was 15 out of 29 in his age group, and 87 out of 189 males racing.

He is ready to do his next triathlon, and looks forward to more training and learning about this great sport.
He has also lit a fire in me.
We'll see if I will be doing a race sometime soon.
